Advent Prayer & Conversations

The season of Advent is marked by hope, expectation, and the sense that we live in a world filled with longing. Join Rev. April on Monday evenings (December 4, 11 and 17) during the Season of Advent for evening prayer, conversation and fellowship. We will begin at 7pm with a short prayer service, followed by conversation on Kate Bowler's devotional, Bless the Advent we Actually Have. These Monday night gatherings will be a time for quiet fellowship and connection in this busy season in which it is all too easy to forget what we are actually waiting for. Participants are encouraged to bring a snack to share and/or a craft to work on during our conversation, but it's fine to also simply bring yourself. Download the devotion here and we will have a few print copies available at church on Sunday.

Celebrating Bishop Barbara Harris

Join us for a service celebrating the life and ministry of Barbara Clementine Harris, the first woman and first African-American bishop ordained in the Episcopal Church and Anglican Communion.

Barbara Harris, born in 1930, grew up in Philadelphia. She was active in the civil rights movement. She was ordained a deacon in 1979 and a priest in 1980. In 1989, she was ordained as a bishop and served as the diocesan bishop for the Diocese of Massachusetts.

Our featured preacher is Bishop Phoebe Roaf, Bishop of West Tennessee. She is the first woman and first African-American bishop to serve not only in the Diocese of West Tennessee, but in all of Tennessee’s Episcopal dioceses.

A reception will follow the service.
